SCETV presents live “Palmetto Perspectives” exploring artificial intelligence and its impact on learning and society | Stories | March 11, 2026

South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) will host a live studio conversation examining how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping the way people learn, work and interact with technology. The Palmetto Perspectives education special titled “Smart Thinking in the Age of AI” will broadcast and livestream from SCETV studios in Columbia on March 19 at 7 p.m. on ETV and SC Public Radio. Members of the public are invited to join the live studio audience in-person. Registration is required and can be completed online.

AI is rapidly transforming everyday life, influencing classrooms, workplaces and digital spaces. This one-hour discussion will bring together AI experts and everyday users to explore both the opportunities and challenges associated with the technology. Panelists will discuss topics including ethical considerations, digital safety and the growing need for responsible technology use while offering clear explanations and real-world insight into one of today’s most influential technological developments.

The conversation will feature Dr. Kedralyn Folk, an AI educator at the University of South Carolina and former K-12 educator; David Thornton, an information technology instructor at the Daniel Morgan Technology Center in Spartanburg and member of Governor Henry McMaster’s AI Task Force; and Chelsea Richard, Ph.D., MSPH, vice president of operations at Central Carolina Community Foundation. Together, the panelists will provide perspectives from education, workforce development and community leadership as they examine how AI is being integrated into classrooms, careers and daily life.

Jada Samuel will host the discussion. Samuel previously served as Miss South Carolina and has led education-focused initiatives that connect students and families with learning opportunities across the state. Paulia Williams will serve as the episode’s social media correspondent, engaging viewers online and helping connect audiences with additional resources and insights throughout the live episode.
